Nuan (暖) means warmth in Chinese. The warmth of a bowl passed between hands. The warmth of a mother and baby being cared for. The warmth of sharing a meal with the family.
In Chinese tradition, the first month after birth is known as the Golden Month or 'sitting the month' or confinement. It is a sacred period of rest, warmth and deep nourishment, where new mothers are cared for and fed foods specifically chosen to restore their bodies. At Nuan Co, everything we make is inspired by this tradition, the belief that how a mother recovers in her first month shapes her health for years to come.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has guided postpartum recovery for over 2,000 years. It understands what modern wellness is only beginning to rediscover: that a mother's body after birth is depleted, and that real recovery requires warmth, rest and the right food. Specific ingredients such as red dates to replenish blood, codonopsis root to restore qi, ginger to warm the uterus, longan to calm the spirit, are not trends. They are time-tested tools that have nourished mothers across generations.
Nuan Co was founded by Amanda, a chef with Vietnamese & Chinese roots. The idea was born not in a kitchen, but in the homes of her friends. New mothers struggling through the exhaustion and overwhelm of early motherhood. Like Amanda, most of her friends are expats, first time mothers in a foreign country, far from the family who would traditionally have cooked for them, cared for them and passed down the wisdom of the Golden Month. Amanda began cooking for them. Broths, congees, warming soups rooted in the traditions she grew up with. She saw first-hand how the right food changed everything. Nuan Co is that care, now for every mother.
